It looks like Microsoft is gearing up to announce the next big title from Xbox Studios that will be released on the PS5. According to some reports, this title will be Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.
The leaks started when a Reddit user noticed a player from the PlayStation Network (PSN) participating in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition through what appeared to be a beta phase. This player was observed in the game’s lobby, generating discussion within the gaming community.
This information aligns with what The Verge journalist Tom Warren reported about the game’s potential path to PS5. Warren noted about six months ago that, as part of Project Latitude, Microsoft is considering releasing Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition on competing home consoles in early 2025. A spin-off of the same series, Age of Mythology: Retold, is also expected to debut on PS5.
Based on recent statements from Microsoft and Xbox, it would not be surprising to see more Xbox Studios games released on PS5, a possibility hinted at several times by the brand’s head, Phil Spencer.
Project Latitude, aimed at expanding Xbox Studios titles to other platforms, continues to achieve notable success. The latest example is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which dominates the PlayStation platform with over 70% of its sales in the UK market.
