Originally announced in 2021, Metal Slug Tactics, a grid-based tactical spin-off of the long-running action game franchise from SNK launches today. Developed by Leikier Studio and published by DotEmu Gamers have waited a long while for Metal Slug Tactics as the game was actually set to release in 2022, but it was subsequently delayed to 2023 and then pushed even further into 2024.
Metal Slug Tactics Brings the storied art style, characters and explosions of the series to the tactical rpg arena for the first time. Featuring roguelite elements with over 20 mission types and 110 hand-drawn maps, strategic airstrikes, specials, and maneuvers are key to all out victory. Metal Slug’s classic heroes including Marco, Fio, Eri, and others are also in the game, each with specialized characteristics that can be leveled up as you progress throughout.
The launch trailer, also released today, reveals the various weaponry and machines the heroes are pitted against. Speaking of heroes, the trailer includes the final two heroes coming to Metal Slug Tactics, as robotics specialist Nadia and the mind-controlling ninja master Trevor join the roster making for a total of nine hero characters.
It wouldn’t be a Metal Slug game without fantastic music, and DotEmu have brought back Tee Lopes of TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge and Sonic Mania to helm the soundtrack which can be purchased on Steam digitally or as a vinyl for about $42 (USD).
Metal Slug Tactics launches today, November 5, for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and available on PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate as well.
