The Story
The thirteenth volume of In Another World with My Smartphone begins with Touya meeting Relisha of the Adventurer’s Guild. She comes to him with a request to take out a behemoth. Touya sees this as a good opportunity to test out the Frame Gear and does so. As a reward, he is given a gold adventurer card and is the second-ever person to earn one, the first being the King of Lestia.
Touya wants to make more Frame Gears but he gets scolded over the intensive labor that it takes. There are blueprints to build new mode types but they are in the Storehouse of Babylon which he hasn’t found yet. When searching for some golems for materials, he comes across a girl with a severe leg injury. He brings her back and gets her healed but she has amnesia. For now, due to her light pink hair, she is named Sakura.
Touya ends up getting attacked by assassins and then paid a visit from the Love God who is masquerading as Touya’s sister! Apparently, a servant god wanders onto the realm and is in hiding so she’s there to sniff them out and needs Touya to help. Before anything can happen, the kingdom of Yulong attacks the kingdom of Hannock which borders Regulus! Touya needs to intervene; however, just when he’s about to, a new threat arises in a Phrase invasion catching him off guard!
Characters
My God… the harem just keeps growing!
So first, we have Relisha and although she’s not part of the harem, since she’s a girl, you know it’s only a matter of time. Touya confesses everything to her about the Frame Gears in hopes that the guild will come through with information on the Phrase in the future. So, even if she’s not part of the harem, Touya now has an informant in his back pocket. There isn’t anything special about Relisha. Seems like a standard side character. Maybe she’ll be a bit more diverse in the future.
Sakura is a mystery. With her amnesia, she doesn’t remember much but there have been some seeds planted to explore later. Even with her amnesia, she seems rather timid and not sure of herself but there are moments where it seems as if she knows more than she’s leading us to believe. Definitely someone to keep an eye on.
We meet the Hildegard, the Princess of Lestia. Like Relisha, she plays a part and then disappears. Touya saved her from the Phrase so she is grateful. As a gift of their meeting, he gave her a Phrase Sword to help cut down any future invaders. More seeds for the future so I’m sure this isn’t the last we’ll see of her!
Next, we meet Liora and Noel… two more guardians of Babylon as Touya finds The Wall and The Tower components. Liora seems….normal? Nope. She’s a dominatrix with a sweet smile while Noel inherited the doctor’s laziness and is constantly sleeping. Two more were added to the harem!
I think that’s everyone. Yeesh, this cast just keeps getting bigger and bigger! I really do need to build that spreadsheet!
Final Thoughts
For 144 pages, this volume was PACKED from cover to cover with events happening. Even though a lot of the events were hints at things to come in the future, the biggest focus was on Yulong, the assassins who might have been from there, the invasion of Hannock, and Touya’s vow to help out Regulus by trying to stop Yulong’s advance. If they take Hannock, then they would easily try to invade Regulus which is something that they have historically attempted before. Of course, Yulong is interested in the Frame Gear, too. Perhaps, Touya should have kept his mouth shut and kept them a secret! Besides, with all his power, he should have taken out that behemoth himself
We found two more pieces of Babylon but neither were the storehouse. I know Touya needs that to ramp up Frame Gear production; however, The Wall and The Tower are just as good as he now has the ultimate defense as well as the ability to generate mana for Babylon with incredible speed. On top of that, The Tower powers and enhances the other pieces so whatever he can do with Babylon now will only be amplified! Seems like a lateral upgrade but still an upgrade is an upgrade!
The ending was a bit out of left field but it’s not like it wasn’t built up for several volumes already. It’ll be interesting how it gets handled but one thing is for sure… this certainly isn’t over as we received quite the Endeing to this volume!
