With the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe hanging in the balance in many respects, many feel that one thing that needs to happen sooner rather than later is the arrival of the X-Men. Yes, we have “seen them” in the MCU via the ending stinger for The Marvels and then with Deadpool & Wolverine, but there’s context for both. The former was a multiversal scene, and the latter was technically a movie not set in the MCU at all. However, Kevin Feige has come forward and said that Avengers Secret Wars will be the point in which the X-Men will finally get their due/introduction.
As noted by Deadline, Feige was talking about the future of the MCU during a special Disney event and said the following about the X-Men’s future:
“I think you will see that continues in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.”
Obviously, the “hows” and “whys” of it all will be built up, and that’s part of the intrigue. The only downside is that Avengers Secret Wars doesn’t arrive until 2027, so we’ll be waiting a while.
