You wake up in a plane unsure of how you got there or why there is a plane. Turns out you were found by Kat a producer of the dating game show, Find Love or Die Trying. You have to use your charm to get one out of the five girls to fall in love with you and if they agree to marry you, you and her get to leave this island and live out your days together. If she declines, you are then killed. You are the only one who knows this and can’t let any of the bachelorettes understand the true design underneath.
The Good
The art and design of Find Love or Die Trying are phenomenal. Each character has unique features and stands out even when they are next to each other. The color palette is vast, and the backgrounds are vibrant. It was a joy when I entered a new area you could visit.
The story of the game is quite engaging. You get to learn a lot about the island and the situation that you are in. The girls also get a lot of personality and backstories. There isn’t a lot of time with each girl so they give them a lot of personality with everything they say.
There are helpful quality-of-life features. For example, you can cycle back and forth between the characters’ text and the dialogue of the narration. You can save your state at any point in the game.
The Bad
The worst part of Find Love or Die Trying is the length. It is about 4 hours long. When things were getting interesting, the game escalated towards the end. I wanted to see more of these characters and their history with the world.
Choices in this game do change if you can get to the end, as if ratings tank on the show, they will kill you. That said, it is easy to see what choice will tank the ratings. You have a bad choice and a good choice. It doesn’t make it a difficult visual novel experience.
The Verdict
Find Love or Die Trying is a fun visual novel to experience. There isn’t any voice acting and the music can be a bit repetitive but the art, the characters, and the story do make it worth the small price of admission.
Find Love or Die Trying is available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S and PC.
