I was absolutely giddy when it was announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is finally coming to PC. I’ve been waiting for this announcement for a long time, because I’ve played both Insomniac titles featuring Peter Parker and Miles Morales on PC, since I don’t have a PS4 or PS5. However, as I looked deeper into the PlayStation Blog post that announced the January 2025 release date, I noticed that there was a throwaway line that will make many wonder what’s going on behind the scenes.
Specifically, in the blog, they noted:
“While we have no additional story content planned for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we’re delighted to bring all of our previously released post-launch content to the PC version.”
That’s going to be shocking for many, as the original game for PS4 had the “City That Never Sleeps” DLC, which brought in Black Cat and Hammerhead and helped set up the next game in certain ways. Furthermore, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gotten a lot of criticism post-launch due to how they used Venom, and it was revealed later that there WERE more voice lines recorded for the symbiote, and yet they weren’t used, teasing DLC content.
So, why aren’t we getting any DLC? It’s hard to say. The biggest thing might be the major hack/leak that happened to Insomniac Games, which apparently “revealed” all they were working on. Perhaps Sony didn’t want to focus on DLC content versus working on a third game or another game that Insomniac might be working on. It’s hard to say, but it’s sad to see such a title not get more content until its next game.
