It was announced at the 15th Anniversary event for Steins;Gate that the acclaimed visual novel will be receiving a reboot! Aptly titled Steins;Gate Reboot, the visual novel is scheduled to release at some point in 2025.
The reboot will not be a simple relaunch, though. The game will receive updated graphics and brand-new story elements. Huke, the original character designer for the original visual novel, will return to provide their services once again for the reboot. At this time, there is no word on whether cutscenes from the TV anime will be included as they were when the Elite version of the game came out a few years ago.
The original visual novel launched on October 15, 2009 for the Xbox 360. Since then, it received a television anime adaptation, a special OVA episode, and a full-length anime movie. Then a sequel visual novel, Steins;Gate 0 released which, too, received a television anime adaptation. An Elite version of the original visual novel released which included footage from the TV anime as cutscenes.
The visual novel is described as follows:
Steins; Gate follows an eclectic group of individuals who have the ability to send text messages to the past. However throughout their experimentation process, an organization named SERN who has been doing their own research on time travel tracks them down. Now it’s a careful game of cat and mouse to not get caught and moreover, try to survive.
Steins;Gate is part of a multiverse project which includes Chaos;Head taking place before Steins;Gate, and Robotics;Notes which takes place after Steins;Gate.
