As we’ve noted on things like the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast, one of the best elements of the Switch has been The Big N embracing a BUNCH of its franchises so that the system would almost always have something coming up. However, even with that, the Switch has been missing several key franchises that Nintendo fans want to see more of. One such franchise is Star Fox, which hasn’t had a “true game” since Zero back on the Wii U, and no one likes to talk about that game. Many rumors spread that a new entry was coming to Switch…but that hasn’t happened.
However, OG character artist Takaya Imamura believes that the franchise will return and that Shigeru Miyamoto might be the reason for that. He talked with The Gamer recently and gave his thoughts on the series “status” by noting:
“For both those games, Shigeru Miyamoto was behind the originals, and he has very strong feelings towards the IP that he’s created. But he’s also a very busy person. So I think one of the reasons specifically for those two IPs, why you don’t see [games] coming more frequently, is because of the balance between what he has on his plate and his desire to be a big part of new games in those franchises. It’s just impossible to have regular, yearly [releases], or every five years, even. This is just my personal feeling, but I think of those two games, Miyamoto has got strongest feelings for Star Fox. So, I think we’ll see another game, film, [or] some kind of new development with the IP at some point, but I don’t know when or what.”
Given the advances in technology and online capability, many do believe that Star Fox could make a big return and reignite love for the series. It’s up to Nintendo to make it happen, though.
