Side-scrolling adventure game Neva will arrive this fall. Developed by Nomada Studio, the makers of Gris, the gorgeously designed game has a release date of October 15th. Publisher Devolver Digital showed off a short and sweet trailer last week that showcases the sumptuous visuals.
For those wondering if Neva is just a pretty face, it already has a lot else going for it. While Gris had puzzle-platforming, Neva adds to that with a good amount of combat. You can see a bit of this in the trailer, as Alba—the main character who is not a wolf—does battle with various beasties.
Neva also tells a story. Alba travels with Neva—the main character who is a wolf. Together they journey through a rapidly dying world. Over time, they learn to trust one another and work together in order to survive, and ideally, find a new home. On Steam, Nomada describes the bond between Alba and Neva in a bit more detail:
Over time, their relationship will evolve as they learn to work together, helping one another to brave increasingly dangerous situations. The wolf will grow from a rebellious cub to an imposing adult seeking to forge her own identity, testing Alba’s love and their commitment to one another.
This past June, I checked out a demo of Neva at the Tribeca Games Festival. Unsurprisingly, the demo looked great, with Alba and Neva traveling through lush forests and eerie caverns. But the demo also gave a great idea of the combat, which proved fast-paced and frequent while still giving enough breathers to stop and smell the virtual flowers.
You can enjoy your own visually-stimulating adventure when Neva arrives on October 15th. The indie game will debut for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
