The Story

We get back on track to deciphering the data that Tokiko left behind for Nasa. The part that he ordered to fix the device came in so he picked it up, installed it, and began to learn a lot about Tsukasa’s regenerative powers. Despite learning a lot, there is a piece to the puzzle that isn’t adding up. Something that suggests that what could have been a scientific achievement to create the perfect human being has a flaw. He doesn’t know how but he thinks that he can exploit this flaw to grant Tsukasa’s wish!

Meanwhile, Tsukasa is feeling a bit lonely. Nasa promises to take her out on a date but he doesn’t know where to take her. After going through a mental checklist, he realizes he did everything that he could possibly do so he turns to his students for some advice. Kaguya suggests a place and, therefore, Nasa thinks it’s perfect, although, he is a bit worried that it wouldn’t be good enough for Tsukasa.

Meanwhile, we check in with Asimo and Kousaka. Asimo is getting ready to take his entrance exams and recalls a time when Nasa beat everyone in the cram school as an outsider. Asimo makes Nasa his goal; however, in the present day, he remembers a rumor that Nasa had died in a traffic accident. When Asimo and Kousaka end up in the same place as Nasa and Tsukasa on their date, it comes as a total shock to both of them to see Nasa alive and well… more so Kousaka due to a flashback we received early on in the volume!

Remembering the promise that Kousaka made that she would do anything for Asimo if he won, a burning determination is set ablaze in his eyes as he makes Nasa his number one goal in the upcoming exams!

Characters

While we didn’t learn anything new about Tsukasa herself, thanks to decoding Tokiko’s data, we learned a little bit about her immortality and what the Horai Elixir could have been. Although, Nasa does have some suspicions due to the findings and he looked rather worried after reading the data. Of course, if you read the snippets yourself, you can also see what Nasa could be worried about even though the manga doesn’t come out and say it. The implications are there and if they are what I think they are, Tsukasa is going to become a character people will want to protect forever!

While there wasn’t much with Asimo, we do get a bold statement from him at the end of the volume and his newfound determination to beat Nasa after learning he is, indeed, alive is going to play a role in this upcoming academic battle between the two of them. We’ll get to see just how good a focused Asimo truly is!

As for Kousaka, the little flashback in the beginning was cute and her reaction to seeing Nasa after all these years was a little unexpected but hilarious. Despite those old feelings, she goes full tsundere on Asimo as it’s pretty clear that even though feelings were there before for Nasa, she has someone else right in front of her. Still, it’s not going to make her bend the knee to her feelings just yet. I have a feeling that despite the results of the exam, we’re going to get the same result between her and Asimo!

Final Thoughts

Another mixed bag of stories is being told here. While I was expecting something a bit different from Tokiko’s data, what we were given was interesting. It has some dark implications to it that the manga decided to just gloss over and not expand upon. With the way Tsukasa acted after she confronted Nasa about the data, it made me wonder if they originally wanted to go that route but pulled back in favor of a lighter approach. Then again, I may be looking too deeply for something that isn’t even there and I’m just interpreting the findings incorrectly. Either way, Nasa is going to have to put in some work on this one so I don’t think that it’s something that’s going to set solved right away.

The love story between Asimo and Kousaka has been cute thus far. For some reason, I wonder if Nasa is going to throw the exams just to get these two together. After all, Nasa is smart enough to where he doesn’t even need to take the exams as he’s already a teacher. They serve zero purpose to him other than just being a mental exercise. He could do something nice for Asimo and throw him a bone but I have a feeling his competitive side will get the better of him. Whether or not Asimo can truly beat him remains to be seen but the rivalry has been quite fun and I’m looking forward to seeing the conclusion to it.

Is fruit milk really that popular in Japan?

Either way, it’s another good volume. It looks like we’ll get the exam battle in the next volume and after that, hopefully, we’ll jump back onto the story of Nasa researching a solution for Tsukasa… barring any more rumbling stomachs or spur-of-the-moment dates… aka… expect more misdirection because that’s what this series does best!
