The Story
The name of the game in this volume is marriage! Arisa and Mari are preparing for their marriage but as they do, they realize just how unprepared they are! There are things to consider such as the wedding dress and, more importantly, the kiss! Arisa goes on a bit of a knowledge quest to find out just how to kiss Mari when the big moment comes! She gets some good advice (and we, the reader get some nice scenes) but when she takes this knowledge to Mari for a practice session, they get a bit confused as to who is supposed to initiate!
One of the other major events that they need to overcome is the dreaded parental permission. Arisa’s was easy as she just blurted out that she invited her mother to the wedding and she’s already coming… that only leaves Mari’s parents. When they arrive, nobody is home so they decide to make themselves at home… a little too much… and just as one would predict, Mari’s mother comes walking in during one of those moments.
Finally, we got the wedding itself! I won’t spoil anything that happens but it was quite the tender wedding that ended up in a cliffhanger!
Characters
Hmm… I can’t say that there was much of anything in terms of character development with our main cast of Arisa and Mari. I mean, Mari did have to have a meeting with Maeda to clear up some sort of accusation but I would hardly call that development. Arisa learning how to kiss and then the two of them getting their parents’ permission are also events and not developments so not much has truly changed… yet.
When it comes to Mari’s mother, though, I’m not so sure you could call that development either. She was steadily against the marriage because of the typical reason that girls shouldn’t marry girls, it’s unlawful, etc. Arisa diffuses the situation but she doesn’t do so in a way where it convinces her to go against her thinking… rather, she strongarmed her into coming. I never got the sense that her perspective truly changed, therefore, does that even count as development?
Final Thoughts
The volume was pretty story-driven with the build-up to the big day for Arisa and Mari. While everything leading up to and including the wedding didn’t disappoint, the cliffhanger at the end may be a red herring. Given the nature of this series and what happened before with this particular topic, it could just be a false moment to set up a joke to open up the fifth volume. If it truly is the moment we’ve been waiting for, it’ll be interesting to see how they fill the two remaining volumes with his new direction. Of course, a wedding would be the perfect place for a cliffhanger like this as every wedding in every story has to have some sort of drama, right?
Outside of that, it was the typical fare from this series with Arisa being loud, bold, and way too forward about sexy stuff while Mari is calm and reserved. The slight drama with Maeda was a loose end that got tied up and, of course, it was rather cute with Arisa trying to learn how to kiss. It’s a good thing that Arisa has so many willing friends to show her many different levels of kissing!
Next time, we see the aftermath of the cliffhanger and we’ll see where the series goes from there! Two more to go!
