With the release of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, the follow-up to one of my favorite games of all time, there seems to be a slight issue with the game if you’re playing it on PC. Or more specifically, while the game states that you need to install the game onto an SSD or a Solid State Drive, I’ve noticed that after helping people resolve the issue of the black screen that eventually causes the game to crash or stay stuck, there’s a fix.
How to fix the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Black Screen Error
Well, you’re not going to like this, but I’ve found that helping people to resolve this error, is quite simple. Don’t install the game onto an HDD or conventional hard drive. The specifications for the game clearly state that the game needs to be installed on an SSD. However, installing the game via Steam doesn’t stop you from installing the game onto an HDD.
There really should be some logic that prohibits that, but there isn’t. So instead of having the game running smoothly or at all, installing the game onto an HDD causes the game to choke, and then you run into the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 black screen or failure to load issue. There are just too many textures and resources to be loaded off a conventional HDD. Sadly, the days of HDDs are coming to an end, with the prices of SSDs coming down exponentially.
So, the fix is to move the game onto an SSD or purchase an SSD and install it into your PC if you don’t have one, then move it over to it. Don’t feel embarrassed, these things happen. Of course, this has worked for those who accidentally installed the game onto an HDD. But if you don’t have an HDD installed, this fix won’t help you.
