During the September 2024 State of Play, Capcom not only showcased a new trailer for its upcoming title, Monster Hunter Wilds but also confirmed the release date: February 28, 2025. This installment will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, marking a departure from Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise.
The new trailer highlights multiple monsters that players will face, promising to make our hunting adventures both exciting and challenging. Notably, the “White Wraith,” mentioned in the trailer, is officially referred to as the Arkveld on the Monster Hunter Wilds website, and it appears to be the flagship monster of the game.
The mysterious monster Arkveld hails from a species long thought to be extinct, and bears uniquely shaped, chain-like wings. After rescuing the young boy Nata on the border of the Forbidden Lands, the Hunter’s Guild gathers its resources and forms the Forbidden Lands Research Commission to investigate the mysterious “White Wraith” that attacked Nata’s home. In order to properly explore the Forbidden Lands, the Research Commission dispatches multiple units to the area. These include the Avis Unit made up of Alma, Gemma, the player’s Hunter, and their Palico, as well as the Astrum unit, which includes the veteran hunter Olivia, who can join players as a Support Hunter, alongside her Palico Athos, the biologist Erik, and Werner the engineer.
Previously Capcom revealed that Monster Hunter Wilds will feature crossplay among PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, there is still no word on cross-saves or cross-progression (saves, progress, DLC). At least we can look forward to expanding the player pool across console and PC. Additionally, the PC version is expected to support mods and offer improved frame rates, assuming Wilds avoids the optimization issues seen in World and Rise at launch.
That’s not all, as Capcom has revealed that with the 2024 Tokyo Game Show taking place this week, it will be showcasing more Wilds stuff with the Scarlet Forest gameplay reveal this upcoming Friday.
Like many fellow fans, I can’t wait to dive into the game when it releases on February 28, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
