When Xbox revealed that it was bringing its Game Pass subscription service to Amazon’s Fire TV devices, there was some frustration that this only applied to newer generation models. However, as of today, Xbox and Amazon have confirmed that Game Pass will now also be compatible with older Fire TV devices.
Specifically, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st Gen) and the Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen) have been added to the list of devices that support Game Pass, allowing users to stream Xbox games on any TV. The reason for this update likely comes down to the fact that these devices aren’t outdated in terms of processing power.
For instance, after researching the Fire TV Cube, I discovered that it actually has the most powerful CPU among all Fire TV Stick 4K models, including the newest ones. This helped clarify why some users pointed out that Game Pass wasn’t initially compatible with these devices. However, someone did inform me that Game Pass did work on the Fire TV Cube if you sideloaded the app.
Overall, this is great news for those who don’t want to invest in a new device just to access Xbox games without owning a console. That said, after testing Game Pass on the latest Fire TV Stick, I still believe the Xbox Series X is the best option—unless, of course, you prefer gaming on PC.
