The Story
Volume eleven of How Do We Relationship centers around more relationship trouble for our two main couples.
With Miwa and Tamaki, the issue of sex is still at the forefront. Tamaki doesn’t enjoy having sex and it causes Miwa to feel as if she’s doing something wrong. It gets to the point where it puts a stress on their relationship; however, Miwa doesn’t want it to end. She believes that the best thing to do is to learn how to compromise. As a result, she spends time with Tamaki but keeps her distance. Saeko even noticed it when the two of them were walking, yet, they weren’t holding hands as they normally did. This eventually makes Tamaki confront Miwa as she notices the drastic change in behavior… a confrontation that ends up in a situation that Miwa once desired but found herself pained and filled with regret!
In Saeko’s case, it’s an issue of her future goals and ambitions… or lack thereof. Yuria wants to know what those goals are but when she doesn’t have any, she makes it her life’s dream to support Yuria in her quest to become a beautician. Of course, this upsets Yuria as she doesn’t want Saeko wasting all of her free time fretting over her and her future… but that’s the only thing Saeko wants to do since her lack of ambitions doesn’t seem to present an alternate path for her. Saeko even goes as far as to try to get a job with a rather large company thinking that the pay would be high enough for her to support herself and Yuria’s dream. Sensing that Saeko is throwing her life away… Yuria comes to a decision!
Characters
In the last volume, we saw just how super horny Miwa could be. Here, she finally realizes just how horny she is and how it is affecting Tamaki. Of course, this is Miwa we’re talking about and everything that she does is over-the-top and finding a compromise to keep their relationship healthy is just another example of her going too far with an idea to where it hurts her relationship even more! So, in a way, she both grew and regressed as a character. She thought she was doing the right thing, and in hindsight, she is… but she’s doing it too much to where it’s causing a detrimental effect. Only Miwa could pull something like that off!
In the case of Tamaki, her desire to not have sex as much came off the wrong way and it’s what caused Miwa to learn how to compromise. However, when this happened, Tamaki began to feel bad about what she had said and did a bit of soul-searching herself. She loves Miwa and realizes that how she expressed herself, caused a problem. The thing is, Tamaki knows that she needs to find a way to solve it and her solution is, like Miwa, a bit too over-the-top. The difference here is that Miwa’s solution was born from fear and worry while Tamaki’s was born from guilt and regret. They are working through it and the next step in their maturity will be figuring out the answer to their problems together.
Saeko’s problem is that she has no ambitions and thinks that she can just dedicate her life to Yuria and that would solve everything. That makes her completely naïve, yet, still paints her as someone who doesn’t know what she wants. It’s the same as when she was dating Miwa… she just came across as this person who just floats aimlessly and each time she gets into a situation where you think she’ll finally wake up and realize that she needs to change, she doesn’t. We are at another one of those crossroads with her. She needs to learn to find an ambition and to stop floating through life, otherwise she may end up in a familiar situation!
As for Yuria, I can’t really say she developed all that much. She’s more than aware of Saeko trying to live her life for her sake and that makes her feel uncomfortable. The only thing she could do to grow would be to find a way to help Saeko through this problem and maybe find an ambition for her to follow. The solution she did offer at the end of the volume; however, says that she probably doesn’t want to go through the trouble. That right there tells you just how true the love is between them. I could be wrong and it might be a true love that fuels their relationship but Yuria needs to discover what that is as much as Saeko does.
Final Thoughts
Problems, problems, problems. That is the theme of this volume but I feel as if the next volume is going to be the turning point for both of our couples. By the end of this volume, all four of them are beginning to see what’s wrong and to find ways to work through those problems. The only issue is that the proposed solutions for both of our couples are the same, and yet, the results may end up having different impacts that end up with the same result.
Oof… that last sentence was hard to write without trying to give things away but it’s not hard to put the pieces of the puzzle together… especially after Saeko and Miwa had a nice talk in this volume and even though the words didn’t convey it, their facial expressions offered subtle hints that it might be time to begin the process of getting our original couple back together. You can see the cracks in the relationships begin to form and while those cracks don’t seem large right now, they could easily grow and shatter with a simple wrong word or wrong gesture. The fact that both of our couples were left in such a gesture could suggest that the solution to their problems may not put smiles on anyone’s face.
We’ll see how that plays out next time!
