This week has already been terrible for the gaming industry via the many layoffs that are affecting Bungie, but many hoped that the tide would be stemmed for a while after that. Sadly, they were wrong, as Game Informer revealed that after 33 years of publication, they were shutting down their beloved magazine. The magazine’s official Twitter handle dropped the news, and then Kotaku added later on that the magazine’s whole staff had been laid off.

The Final Level: Farewell from Game Informer
After 33 thrilling years of bringing you the latest news, reviews, and insights from the ever-evolving world of gaming, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Game Informer.
From the early days of pixelated adventures to today’s immersive virtual realms, we’ve been honored to share this incredible journey with you, our loyal readers. While our presses may stop, the passion for gaming that we’ve cultivated together will continue to live on.
Thank you for being part of our epic quest, and may your own gaming adventures never end.
Gamestop is the owner of Game Informer, and there hasn’t been a specific reason for the shutdown, but given all that’s happening in the industry with certain “higher-ups” trying to “save money and cut costs,” given their lack of profits due to bad decision, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear that someone at Gamestop didn’t “see the value” of the magazine anymore and shut it down.
While it’s true we live in a digital age, Game Informer was trying to adapt to the times, and their iconic status amongst gamers hasn’t been forgotten, which is why it lasted for over three decades. So, once again, the question now becomes, “What company in the gaming industry will be hit next?”
**Editor-in-chief** I wanted to add that this news of Game Informer closer really sucks. There’s no way of getting around this, it sucks. Having ALL of the employees fired or terminated, many of which have no idea that this was happening. Game Informer magazine was also a big inspiration for why The Outerhaven was started, so this one hits close to home. I hope everyone finds another gig soon and manages to land on their feet during this extremely stressful time.
**Edit** As pointed out by Alex Van Aken formerly of Game Informer, the entire Game Informer website is currently inaccessible, outside of the landing page that mentions the closure of the website.
We can’t access the website to backup our years of work. It’s just a landing page now. pic.twitter.com/pXaImC9cJZ
