It’s hard to believe that it’s been just over two weeks since Deadpool & Wolverine released in theaters and set the world on fire (read my review!!!). The movie that was the embodiment of “give the people what they want” not only became the highest-grossing R-rated film ever both domestically and internationally, it’s easily one of the biggest successes in recent movie history, and is definitely going to eclipse certain other recent standouts like Inside Out 2 and Barbie from last year. We can say that because of the confirmation we got about its current “movie status.”
As Marvel themselves revealed, the film has crossed a billion dollars at the global box office.
That’s billion with a B. #DeadpoolandWolverine ❤️💛

The reason that’s significant is that the last Marvel Cinematic Universe film to cross a billion was…can you guess it…? Yes, it was Spider-Man: No Way Home. No film has crossed that threshold since.
That’s part of the reason why many feel that the MCU is in such a “bad state” overall, and why Deadpool & Wolverine truly was the “Marvel Jesus” of the brand. Of course, recent announcements, like RDJ being cast as Doctor Doom in his MCU return, highlight how the brand is going to bounce back, but it remains to be seen if it’ll work.
For now, though, we can enjoy this success, as it was one that was both quality and earned! Shall we all sing “Like A Prayer” together?
