Black Myth: Wukong is a strong game that stands on its own and is considered one of the best titles of the year. However, its release has sparked several controversies, including its absence on the Xbox Series X|S. Microsoft and Game Science have issued conflicting statements regarding the situation, but it appears the issue is not related to optimization. Instead, the delay seems to stem from a poorly managed exclusivity agreement with PlayStation.
Recent reports have revealed that the delay of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox is due to an exclusivity deal with Sony. A knowledgeable source told IGN that this deal has not been publicly acknowledged by either Game Science or Sony, despite the speculation. The source explicitly denied that technical issues were the cause of the delay, labeling rumors of such problems as “inaccurate.”
In contrast, Microsoft’s statement on June 21 mentioned, “We’re excited for the launch of Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms. We can’t comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders, but we remain focused on making Xbox the best platform for gamers, and great games are at the center of that.”
The game’s delay for Xbox players has been a hot topic since the Xbox Series X|S was missing from the Black Myth: Wukong trailer shown during Summer Game Fest. Game Science’s FAQ stated that they were “optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards,” but did not address the exclusivity deal.
As of now, there is no confirmed release date for the Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong. The delay has left Xbox fans eagerly waiting for more news, while the game continues to perform exceptionally well on other platforms.
