You can tell that the anticipation for the Nintendo Switch 2 is growing because of the various stories that are coming out about it…despite us not getting any concrete information about it from The Big N. For example, we can predict when it’ll be officially made because of a fiscal report from a semiconductor company. Also, we are hearing all sorts of rumors about the 3rd party support that the console may get. However, the latest “tidbit” of news comes from an interview with the vice president of Amazon Games. They claim that they will be making titles for the new console.
This specifically comes from Christoph Hartmann, who noted to IGN:
“Yeah, we obviously plan to develop games for it and I can’t wait for it to be out. I mean, honestly, I’d rather have them wait a year and get it perfect than rush it to the market and then we all complain about what doesn’t work. Switch has been such a fantastic product, I can wait another year if I have to. And from development, I think most non-Nintendo developers are not exclusively doing titles for the Switch. They’re always part of a portfolio mix of platform mix. Just wait.”
There’s a lot to unpack there, and not all of it is coherent. First, if Amazon Games is making games for the Nintendo Switch 2, that’s cool, albeit something we’d have to see to determine if it was worth it. Second, we KNOW that Nintendo won’t rush out its next console, as they’ve already pushed back its release once, and they’re committed to making this next system as successful as its current one. Finally, that last statement is weird on many accounts because we KNOW that there will be 3rd party exclusives on Switch, just like there will be multi-platform titles brought to Switch.
As for the more immediate future, as we noted on the most recent episode of the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast, there might be a Nintendo Direct coming this week or next!
