In a surprising turn of events, a man in Warwickshire, UK, has been jailed for approaching police officers while carrying a replica of the Master Sword from the Legend of Zelda series. Anthony Bray, from Nuneaton, received a four-month sentence for possessing a bladed article in public.
The incident occurred when Bray walked up to officers in Nuneaton town center with the six-inch blade visibly in hand. Police promptly arrested him, citing concerns about the potential threat posed by the sharply pointed item. Despite Bray’s claim that the sword was merely a fidget toy, authorities were not convinced.
The sword in question, known as the Master Sword, is a key element in the popular game series. However, carrying such items in public is taken very seriously in the West Midlands, a region with the highest knife crime rate in England and Wales. This likely influenced the police’s decision to arrest and charge Bray.
Sergeant Spellman of the Patrol Investigations Unit commented on the case, emphasizing the zero-tolerance policy for bladed articles in public. He noted that Bray’s obvious display of the item led to his arrest and subsequent sentencing. The court also imposed a victims’ surcharge of £154.
