Evo 2024 holds many surprises for video game announcements. SNK has announced that SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos will be getting a re-release, for one. The 2003 Playmore classic came around the same time as the Capcom vs SNK series came about. 36 of both factions’ best and peculiar picks duke it out. With some fan favorites, such as Ken, Ryu, Terry, and Kyo, to random picks like Kasumi, Earthquake, Zero, Dimitri, Tessa, and Goenitz, showing up. The 1 v 1 fighting game is a product of the Playmore takeover of the SNK company.
Despite selecting some obsure runs, some choices were made that were pretty cool. Dan, the joke character from Street Fighter who is a parody of the Art of Fighting team, gets a bit of a boost in the SNK world. Violent Ken, the product of Shadowloo brainwashing, was created by SNK for this game. The concept of an evil Ken Masters was first conceived in Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, whereas Ken is abducted by M. Bison, and is forced to fight against Ryu in the final fight of the anime. Violent Ken was never seen again, in video games, until Super Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers years after.
The guage system is slightly similar to both Street Fighter Alpha and King of Fighters with a Vism like Max mode. If exploited correctly, it’s nearly identical to the King of Fighters XIII Dream Cancel mechanic introduced nearly a decade after this game’s arrival. The stages themselves were different to say the least. From near futuristic to practically empty, they barely had much in terms of connections to the characters.
SVC Chaos New Features
-
- Athena(KoF, Psycho Soldier) and Red Arerrmer(Ghosts and Gobins) will be available from the jump. No need to beat the game through a special method to get these two. Lose to either of them for a humiliating surprise in the story mode.
- SNK will be adding frame data and hitbox view modes.
- There will be a gallery mode with some shots from the game’s artbook. Of course, with Falcoon and Shinikiro’s drawings of the characters in tow. For Shinikiro, this would have been the last of his SNK work before joining Capcom.
- Netcode Rollback will be included in the game. Crossplay not yet determined.
- A tournament mode has also been included.
Life After Chaos
SNK will also be handing a special edition poster to commemorate at Evo 2024. With this one out of the way, and SNK vs Capcom: Match of the Milennium already on the Nintendo Switch as a re-release through Neo Geo Pocket Collection, 3 games on Capcom’s end of the collaboration remain to be re-released. Capcom and SNK are definitely getting along since the news a few Evo Tournaments ago. With Terry and Mai showing face in Street Fighter VI Season 2 starting later this year, the possibility of Capcom vs SNK 3, or even a Capcom vs SNK Fighting Collection, is imminent.
SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos will be released onto PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The Steam version is available now for 19.99.
