While we’ve heard about Mecha Break for a while now, it wasn’t until the game made a grand entrance during the 2024 Summer Game Fest, that the game is now on the big stage. Mecha Break is sounding more and more like a dream come true for fans of Mecha anime, and while the game is still some time away from being released, the developer has opened up registrations for an upcoming beta. If you like Gundam or Macross, head over to Steam and request beta access.
The Mecha Break beta will take place on August 10, 2024, specifically for PC (Steam), and will be playable for those located in North and Latin America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. Sadly, if you’re located in any other region, you won’t be able to check out this beta.
In Mecha Break, players will pilot giant suits of destructive power called Strikers, which are reminiscent of some of our favorite anime mechas. I must have watched the recent Summer Game Fest trailer at least a dozen times, and from what I can gather, the game seems reminiscent of Armored Core, Zone of the Enders, and a few Mobile Suit Gundam games. Of course, that’s only speculation, since I haven’t played the game yet.
From what I’ve gathered, each mecha, known as a Striker, will fulfill a specific role: Offense, Defense, or Support. You can check out the six Strikers that have been revealed so far on the official website. This suggests that Mecha Break will be more of a team-based game rather than a free-for-all title. If that’s the case, then perhaps this could fill the void left by the ill-fated Gundam Evolution, a game that had potential but suffered due to design flaws and a lack of cross-play.
I’m a big fan of Mecha, both in anime and gaming and I’ve always asked for a game similar to Mecha Break. I’ve been watching lots of prior Mecha Break closed beta gameplay videos on YouTube and, well, I’m excited about what I’ve seen.
Time will tell if this is what I’ve been waiting for, but for now, I’m cautiously optimistic about what I’ve seen, even if it’s been a little glance. I’m looking forward to Mecha Break and keeping my fingers crossed that I get invited to the beta so I can report back on how the game plays and everything else about it.
There’s still no release date for Mecha Break, and while the beta is slated for the PC, the game is also in development for the PlayStation platform as well.
