It was announced by Aoni Production that Toru Furuya, who plays Flame Emperor Sabo on One Piece, is stepping down from his role permanently. This news comes after it had come to light that Furuya had a controversial affair with a fan. Statements on the matter were released from both Furuya and Toei Animation.
In addition to Flame Emperor Sabo, Furuya will also be stepping down from his role as Rei Furuya from Detective Conan. In addition to stepping down, Atlas also removed him from their upcoming role-playing game Metaphor: ReFantazio earlier this month.
Toru, who is 70, admitted to having a 4-year affair with a fan who was in her 30s. He apologized for also physically assaulting the woman during their affair.
Toei Animation aims to replace Sabo with a new voice actor but has not yet announced who will fill the role.
