Last month was the 1-year anniversary of The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. The game was a joy to play (as I noted in my review) and it’s hard to believe it’s already been so long since it first came out. Fans are still sharing their fond memories of the game, and in tribute to the anniversary that was just had, producer Eiji Aonuma and Director Hidemaro Fujibayashi decided to have some fun as well! Specifically, in an interview with Nintendo Dream (that was translated by Nintendo Everything), they shared some unique insights with fans.
For example, Aonuma noted a story he heard about one of the game’s biggest fans:
The other day, I heard about an incident when a kid excitedly said “I played Tears of the Kingdom for over 1,000 hours”, and the mother smiled in response, saying, “I didn’t know about that!” Of course, I was shocked that one could play a single game that much, but I was also surprised that the mother accepted that.
He went on to thank players and promise that more is coming:
Zelda is a longstanding series, and I would like to utilize the experience from this title to create more games that everyone can enjoy in the future, so please look forward to it. To all those who have played The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, thank you very much.
As for Fujibayashi, he commented on how he and the rest of the staff have been thrilled by how many ways players have enjoyed the title:
I have observed how everyone around the world has been playing it and enjoying it in many different ways, which has brought joy to the staff as a whole. To have our game be played so much is an irreplaceable source of motivation to us development staff. Thank you very much.
It’s always nice to hear that from the dev teams behind great games, and it makes us look forward to whatever they have cooking next!
