James Gun may have given us a quick look at the new Superman suit for his upcoming Superman movie beforehand, but that was only a small glimpse at the new look for the man of steel. Set photos coming out of the Superman production (published by Cleveland.com) have now shown David Corenswet in the full outfit, shooting scenes for the movie. In addition to other characters showing up on set, this is the best look at the Superman suit for James Gunn’s film to date.
Multiple photos are getting shared online that give a full-body look at David Corenswet’s new suit as Superman. In the initial teaser image posted by James Gunn online, fans only got to see this new Kal-El putting on his boots while sitting down. The new set photos give a front-and-back look at the suit, showing fans that the red tights and S-shield on the cape are back in style.
The new design of Superman’s suit has some details in various parts of the suit, which are similar to the suit that Henry Cavil wore for both the “Man of Steel” and “Justice League” films. However, David Corenswet’s version of the suit stands out as being more colorful and giving the character the famous red trunks as part of the look. Along with the trunks is a bright yellow belt that is similar to the one that Christopher Reeve wore in the original Superman films by Richard Donner. This return to the bright colors is a very different approach to what we’ve seen for the character in movies for the last decade.
The S-shield logo that defines Superman from a distance is large on the chest but has a yellow highlight around it to make the red pop-out more. While the design of the S on the logo has been notably compared to the one seen in the Alex Ross comic story “Kingdom Come”, it’s different from the use of yellow color behind and around the S itself.
Along with the full Superman look on full display, fans also got their first look at Mr. Terrific, being played by Edi Gathegi alongside David Corenswet. The overall look for Mr. Terrific is pretty faithful to the design of the character from the comics. Despite the photos being passed around showing the two of them working together in the daytime, the context for the scene and why the two heroes are in the area is currently unknown.
With San Diego Comic-Con 2024 just around the corner, we may get to hear more details about James Gunn‘s upcoming movie fairly soon. The director and the studio did state that we wouldn’t see much of the film in 2024, but marketing for Superman will pick up in 2025 in what the studio called the “Summer of Superman”. As of now, James Gunn’s Superman film is slated for a 2025 release.
