The ongoing controversy about Dr. Disrespect continues to unfold at a rapid pace. After a weekend of speculation and discourse online, things have developed even further. Guy Beahm, better known as Dr. Disrespect, originally told everyone that he was going to be leaving streaming or taking an extended vacation. But things appear to have changed once again in a very big way. Dr. Disrespect has now made an official statement about his Twitch ban and the allegations against him that were shared online. It seems like years of speculation about why Dr. Disrespect had been banned from Twitch are not finally coming to an end.
On a post on his official Twitter/X page, Dr. Disrespect posted a lengthy statement that addressed the allegations regarding his ban from Twitch, as well as the reason why the ban occurred back in 2020. In his statement, Dr. Disrespect detailed the reason and timeframe for what happened back then. “Everyone has been wanting to know why I was banned from twitch, but for reasons outside of my control, I was not allowed to say anything for the last several years. Now that two former twitch employees have publicly disclosed the accusations, I can now tell you my side of the story regarding the ban…” The statement comes after his last live stream on YouTube, where he appeared distracted at the end before telling everyone that he would stop streaming. This happened around the same time the Midnight Society, the studio he co-founded, published a statement that they were severing ties with Dr. Disrespect immediately.
According to Dr. Disrespect, he was talking with someone (believed to be a minor) over the Twitch Whisper messaging system back in 2017, which caught the ire of Twitch sometime after. He continued with specifics. “Were there twitch whisper messages with an individual minor back in 2017? The answer is yes. Were there real intentions behind these messages, the answer is absolutely not. These were casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate, but nothing more. Nothing illegal happened, no pictures were shared, no crimes were committed, I never even met the individual. I went through a lengthy arbitration regarding a civil dispute with Twitch and that case was resolved by a settlement.” He also went on to say that there was no criminal case or charges brought against for anything. At the same time, Dr. Disrespect acknowledged that he could’ve used better judgement in approaching the situation, but had no intention of doing anything morally or criminally wrong.
In the same statement, he went on to address many of the statement made about him over the weekend about everything going on, taking direct issue with how he was painted on social media. “Now, with all this said, don’t get it fucking mistaken, I’ve seen all the remarks and labels being thrown around so loosely. Social media is a destruction zone. I’m no fucking predator or pedophile. Are you kidding me? Anyone that truely knows me fucking knows where I stand on those things with those types of people. Fuck that. That’s a different level of disgust that I fucking hate even hearing about. Don’t be labeling me as the worst of the worst with your exaggerations. Get the fuck outta here with that shit.”
The reaction from everyone online to Dr. Disrespect’s statement has been mixed. Some have pointed out the times when posts on his Twitter/X page were edited multiple times, changing up some of the wording in the statements being made. However, other people responding to the post made their feelings on the events known, with many feeling that the entire situation could have been completely avoided if Dr. Disrespect had exercised better judgement. Although there is a large group of people showing support for their favorite streamer, there are many others who are still not happy with the situation, especially the aspects of it now confirmed by Dr. Disrespect himself.
At the end of the statement, Dr. Disrespect went on to apologize to his team and members of the Midnight Society development team. “To my team, community, industry friends that have supported me, I apologize, I wish I could’ve said all this sooner. You guys have always showed me and my family love and support throughout all these years we love you guys like you can’t imagine. I have the fucking best community and circle. If any of this has made you uncomfortable, I get it. You don’t have to support me anymore but just know you have always been greatly appreciated.”
Yet he didn’t leave things without making a few bold statements at the end addressed to those he feels misrepresented him throughout the whole situation. “But trust me when I say this…to all my haters that live and breath social media with zero real life experience, I don’t give a fuck about you… I’m taking an extended vacation with my family as mentioned on stream and I’m coming back with a heavy weight off my shoulders. They want me to disappear… yeah fucking right.” You can see the full statement published by Dr. Disrespect on his official Twitter/X page now.
