Star Citizen has raised over $700 million in crowdfunding but still lacks a full release date. According to the funding tracker for Cloud Imperium Games’ space sim showed a recent surge in donations. On May 25 alone, almost $3 million was raised.
This increase coincided with Star Citizen’s free play period earlier this month, allowing non-backers to try the game. As of now, Star Citizen has raised $702,985,625. Despite this, the game is still in early access and not fully released.
However, significant funding has not prevented job cuts at Cloud Imperium Games. In February, the company faced layoffs amid accusations of a toxic work environment.
The full release date of Star Citizen remains unconfirmed. The studio’s progress tracker indicates that Alpha 4.0 is scheduled for Q3 of this year, but this is tentative.
In March, CEO Chris Roberts stated that the game is pushing towards the “finish line.” Roberts mentioned that 2023 marks the beginning of a transformative chapter for Cloud Imperium and hinted that 2024 could be their best year yet.
