PopMarvel Vs Capcom: Infinite is getting a new facelift and perhaps a new lease on life, thanks to Youtuber and FGC legend, Maximilian Dood. Announcing that he, along with artist/game developer WistfulHopes, will be creating a new look for the game. Ryu and Spider-Man are shown in the tweet to give folks a peak as to how far this is coming. With the right shading techniques, it’s looking pretty cool so far with the sprite overhauls.
Happy to announce that I’ve recently commissioned @WistfulHopes and we’re developing a new art style for Marvel Vs CAPCOM Infinite. We’re in the early stages, with only a couple days of tinkering, but already the results are absolutely incredible. https://t.co/PnU8pFPnrp

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite took it to the chinbuster when it came out. From the aesthetics lacking to the 3 vs. 3 styles That the Marvel Vs. Capcom series was known for being reduced to 2 vs. 2; the 2017 title couldn’t hold a candle to either Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 or Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Some of the choices, in gameplay, felt more like a step backward for many members of the community.
The Infinity Stones were brought back into the series in the Capcom arcade game Marvel Super Heroes back in 1995. However, the stones were more restricted to a “pick your comeback mechanic” style thing. Marvel Super Heroes allowed more flexibility with this system with even the ability to store multiple gems found within the battlegrounds during fights. While UMVC3 kept the comic book feel, Infinite stepped away from it as well as taking in some roster changes. Some of these are rumored to be made based on legalities with character licenses on Marvel’s end.
Power To The People
Community involvement to make mods for published fighting games has usually worked out for the best. Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Community Edition has thrown in about 50 additional characters. Some of them range from previous entrants to entirely new dream roster hopefuls. Fantastic Four’s The Thing, Devil May Cry’s Nero, and Rival School’s Batsu, are just some of the many that modders added with literally everything each fighter has.
Ryn and Max will be tag-teaming to make this endeavor possible. Ryn’s mod work has been known for her Guilty Gear Xrd project. It is definitely worth following to keep tabs on the progression of this mod.
