Fans have lots of wishes for things they want to see, either in movies, television, video games, comics, or any media in between. The problem is that a lot of these “fan wishes” don’t come true for one reason or another. For many X-Men fans, ever since Hugh Jackman became the Wolverine, they wanted to see him in the classic comics outfit. Or at least one version of it. However, Jackman said he was “done” with the role after the Logan film in 2017. Yet, he’s coming back one last time (for now) via Deadpool & Wolverine, and he’s finally revealed why that is the case.
In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, alongside co-star Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy, Jackman revealed that he really didn’t see himself coming back. However, the more he thought about Deadpool & Wolverine both as a film and the characters themselves, he knew this had to happen, not just for himself, but for the fans:
“I was on my way – I was just driving – and literally just like a bolt of lightning came this knowing, deep in my gut, that I wanted to do this film with Ryan… for Deadpool and Wolverine to come together. And Jacqueline, I swear to you, when I said I was done I really thought I was done. But, in the back of my head, ever since I saw Deadpool 1, I was like ‘Those two characters together…’ I knew it: I knew the fans wanted it. Ever since I put on the claws fans have talked about these two, so that had always been there, but I just knew.”
