While it’s not the PlayStation showcase that everyone really wanted, the May 2024 State of Play wasn’t bad, and we received a number of games, some we already knew about and some new. That is if you weren’t paying attention to the leaks.
Here’s every title that was shown or revealed during this month’s State of Play.
Here’s the show in its entirety if you missed it
Concord gets a cinematic and gameplay trailer
We’ve heard about Concord for a while, but today marks the first time that Firewalk has shown the game in action, and it really does look impressive. Concord is an upcoming 5v5 first-person hero shooter, with the combatants possessing special abilities. Concord is slated to be released in August 2024 for the PS5 and PC, with a beta taking place before its release.
God of War: Ragnarok officially heads to the PC
God of War: Ragnarok was long rumored to be headed to the PC, and now it’s been officially confirmed. The title will be yet another PlayStation title to make its way to the PC and will support ultrawide monitors, uncapped frame rates, and a bunch of upscalers such as DLSS, FSR, and XESS. This will be an impressive showcase for those who want to play the game on the PC or who already played it on their PS5 and want to double-dip. What’s interesting is that Nixxes, who has been working on most of the PlayStation to PC ports, isn’t responsible for this port; instead, it is Jetpack Interactive. Folks may not remember, but this is the same team that helped port the original God of War reboot to the PC.
Action RPG Ballad of Antara shown for the first time
A new title from Tipsworks Studio, Ballad of Antara, was revealed. This upcoming action RPG will be free to play when it is released in 2025. While it isn’t a Soulslike, it does look like the game will have similar combat mechanics. I’ll be keeping an eye on this game.
Dynasty Warriors is back with another entry
Fans of Dynasty Warriors rejoice as Omega Force is back with yet another entry, and this time, we’re headed back to the beginning. We haven’t seen a new Dynasty Warriors entry since 2018, so this should be exciting. After all, nobody does Musou-styled games better than Omega Force.
Astrobot returns for another go on PS5
Team Asobi returns with another Astro Bot entry for the PlayStation, and this is perhaps my favorite reveal for the show. It’s called Astro Bot, keeping it simple in the titling. The game will be stuffed with over 50 levels and looks amazing. Look for Astro Bot to grace the PS5 on September 6, 2024.
A look at Capcom’s upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds
Monster Hunter Wilds received a new trailer. We haven’t seen or heard anything about the game since it was revealed during the 2023 Game Awards, so it was nice to see how far along the game is. Though, don’t expect to get your hands on it until 2025.
Here’s everything else that was revealed or shown
- Infinity Nikki, an open-world dress-up title, received a new trailer and will receive a PS5 best test in Q3 2024.
- Until Dawn Remaster is shown, it will be released for the PS5 and PC this fall.
- Skydance revealed its upcoming PSVR2 title, Behemoth. The game will be released in the fall of 2024.
- Alien: Rogue Incursion, a PSV2 Alien survival horror game for PSVR2, will be released in 2024. It gives me some Alien: Isolation vibes, and I hope it plays as well and has the same jump-scare factor.
- Marvel Rivals has been confirmed to be heading to the PS5.
- Where Winds Meet, which was previously a PC-only title, has been confirmed to be in development for the PS5.
- Path of Exile 2 has officially been announced for the PS5 and will feature couch-coop and crossplay.
- Silent Hil 2’s remake got a new gameplay trailer and received an October 8, 2024 release date for the PS5.
