Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Director Teases Future Titles and Reveals Of The Lore

Xenoblade Chronicles 3

If you’ve been to The Outerhaven in the past, or you listen to the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast that I host, you’ll know that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is one of my favorite games ever. I even noted that in my review of the title. Just as important, though, is that I’m eager to see what comes next with the franchise and hopefully get even more answers to the lore that has been woven across the main three games (you’ll get your day in the sun one day, XCX! …maybe…?)

Recently, Japan released the artbook for Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and within it was a massive interview (as noted by Nintendo Everything) with some of the game’s staff, including its director, Tetsuya Takahashi. In it, he noted that there was a survey that fans did and they asked questions about the game’s lore and certain elements that weren’t revealed by the third game’s ending. Here’s how he responded:

“There are answers for basically all the questions and points that people wrote in the survey. Simply, I think it may not be necessary to answer any of those things now. Therefore, if we can continue to make things in the future, I think there may come a time when we are able to provide answers. For example, we are aware that there are many requests to see what happens after the ending. But if we do that, then we’d have to journey beyond Xenoblade Chronicles 3. So, I understand how people feel, but for now please wait just a little while. I’d be very grateful if fans continue to eagerly await that.

Given the success of the title on Nintendo Switch, it seems unfathomable that a fourth game won’t happen. If nothing else, Monolith Soft has proven that they can make incredible RPGs that fans love, and Nintendo likely won’t waste the chance to use them to make new titles for their upcoming Switch successor.

Takahashi also gave some teases about Origin, Aionios, and how fans (for now) should think of it as a “virtual world.” He reiterated there are answers…but we’re not going to get them right now.
