Rockstar Games‘ GTA+ subscription service, focused on GTA Online, has introduced its first price increase since its inception two years ago. Originally launched for console gamers in March 2022, GTA+ provided a range of monthly benefits like GTA$ and vehicle upgrades. As of November 2023, it also offers classic Rockstar titles, including Red Dead Redemption.
This price change marks a significant 40% increase for UK users. The new monthly rate for GTA+ is now £6.99 in the UK, €7.99 in Europe, and $7.99 in the US, available via the PlayStation and Xbox digital stores. Current subscribers will see this new rate effective from June 11, as per Rockstar’s announcement.
The decision mirrors actions taken by other companies in the gaming industry. For instance, EA recently raised the price of its EA Play service, and last year both Microsoft and Sony upped their subscription fees for various services.
Moreover, from April through August, GTA+ members are set to receive an extra GTA$1m every month in GTA Online, perhaps as an added incentive amidst the price hike. This change in cost follows the addition of substantial content to GTA+, including exclusive areas and full games such as the GTA Trilogy and Red Dead Redemption as part of the subscription offerings.
This pricing strategy indicates a shift as companies reevaluate the added value their services offer amidst broader market trends. With this increase, Rockstar aligns with a pattern of subscription service price hikes seen across the gaming industry over the past year.
