I have played through Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters more than a few times and have now officially played the game on all the platforms: PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and finally, Xbox Series X. That said, I wondered which platform offers the best Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters experience. Where is the best place to play it? Let’s dive deep to see what each version does best and where you should play the game.
Easy Ones To Answer
The easiest one to answer is, what is your primary platform to play? If you have a preference for a specific console or if you only own one of them, you can go ahead and get it there. Nintendo Switch only users can play it on Nintendo Switch, Xbox users can get it on Xbox, and so on.
Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters initially launched on PS4, PS5, and PC. A year later, it was released on the Nintendo Switch, and now the Xbox One and Xbox Series versions are looming. It will be released on May 21st, 2024, on Xbox.
This one is a no-brainer, but if you don’t care about the small details in the Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters game, then just go for the copy of the game that you can find on a platform you own and possibly the cheapest. The PC and PS4 copies of the game constantly go on sale digitally. If there is a sale, check out the digital storefront you use.
Differences Between Platforms
Let’s get into the Nitty Gritty of the subject: Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters has subtle differences on all the platforms on which it was released. The easiest one to default to is the modern console release; Xbox Series X and PS5 are, for the most part, very similar. Both run the game at 4K resolution and 30 frames per second. The Live 2D models run at 60fps, so it looks very clean during the visual novel sections.m while the gameplay is locked at 30fps, which can be slow for those who want fast and seamless action gameplay. If you are someone who wants to have more than 30fps, then no console version is worth it for you. Sadly, all the console versions of Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters run the gameplay sections at 30fps.
A little over a year ago, there was a concern that the ESRB brought up with the Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters game. Either Idea Factory or the ESRB forgot to put language as content within the game’s rating. Due to that, some patches had to be forced on the game that replaced dialogue in the game so that any explicit language or swearing was removed. If that is an important thing for you to have an uncensored experience with the game, grab a physical copy of the PS4 or PS5 version. You can play the disc without updating the patches. You can also use mods to restore that content on the PC version of the game if you want to keep any performance updates that came with future game patches. The dialogue changes do not affect the overall story and gameplay, so it isn’t something important.
The big difference between the updated Xbox Series X and PS5 versions is the haptic feedback and the DLC contents. The PS5 controller has a variety of uses for haptic feedback in the game like running in the game having a different feeling on the back of the controller and how it changes based on what type of terrain you are in. You can chalk it up as a novelty, but it is used pretty well in the game for being a third-party entry. The Xbox Series X version, however, has the swimsuit collection as a built into the base version of the game, while on the PS5, it is a DLC that is only included inside the deluxe version of the game.
If you want the swimsuit DLC alongside the base game, go for the Xbox version of Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters. If you want to use the haptic feedback of the DualSense controller, go for the PS5 version of the game. If you are focusing on Xbox One or PS4, just go for the Xbox One version for the swimsuit collection. Saving the $20 of getting it inside the base game is worth it. The physical PS4 and PS5 versions of the game do not include the swimsuit collection, even with a deluxe edition or limited edition. Since there is no add-on content for the swimsuit collection individually, you will have to re-buy the game digitally to gain access to it. The swimsuit collection is just outfits for the goddesses and goddess candidates in the game and is cosmetic only.
The next two platforms to discuss are Nintendo Switch and PC. First, if you want an experience with 60 fps or more in Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters, get the PC version. It has the best performance in most cases. It can run 50 – 60 fps on Steam Deck alone. If you want to play it on the go and have a Steam Deck, then go for the PC version on Steam.
On the other hand, Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters on the Nintendo Switch is a very interesting case. It includes the game like the rest of the console versions. It, however, has been changed drastically to run on the Nintendo Switch. These compromises include the resolution placed at 720p in handheld mode and 1080p while docked. It also adds loading screens and a victory animation in every battle to hide the fact it loads from battle to the actual map. It has a battle map for each area since it isn’t a seamless experience moving from combat to exploration.
While the Nintendo Switch may have a few compromises, it also has a lot of added incentives to get Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters on this platform. The main incentive was that it added Maho and Anri as playable characters. These characters so far can only be played on the Nintendo Switch version of the game. It also lets you have the new game plus characters Higurashi and Alice from the start. You start with a big party, and it stays that way for the duration of the game.
My Verdict
This is mainly based on my own opinions on the versions of Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters, but you knew that getting into this article. The definitive way to experience Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters is on the Nintendo Switch. If you have all the platforms and want the best way to play the game, I’m recommending you get it on the Switch. The inclusion of Anri and Maho are characters tied to the story emotionally, and having them in the game to be able to explore with them is ideal. It also makes it so that when Maho is at the party, she is actually included in party activities. In the main game on platforms, Maho is in your party narratively most of the game, but her model is only around during cutscenes.
Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters on Xbox is a competent experience and those who are Xbox players are finally able to experience the greatness that is the Neptunia series. Hopefully, this is the start of seeing more of the Neptunia games on the console. Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters comes out May 21st, 2024, on Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X. Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters is available on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
