One of my favorite games thus far in 2024 is easily Moon Studios’ No Rest For the Wicked, thanks to its blend of Action RPG and Soulslike gameplay; you know how much I love Soulslikes. With over 60 hours of the game played between my PC, and my handheld PCs, I’ve rarely wanted to play anything else—it’s that good. However, after devoting that much time to the game, I found myself wondering if it would eventually see a wipe before it gets released, destroying hours upon hours of progression, and it seems I’m not the only one either.
Given that No Rest For The Wicked is in an Early Access state, it’s a viable question and concern. Those who are knee-deep in the game, grinding out multiple characters, farming high-end gear, and playing through the current end-game content, are putting in considerable time. So, I’m wondering if all that will go away when the game hits version 1.0; it’s something I’d love to know as well.
Gennadiy Korol of Moon Studios has chimed in regarding the quagmire and has let it be known that the developer doesn’t have an answer yet. However, he did let it be known that if the need arrives due to a technical or game design, then a wipe may be necessary.
Many people have asked about this – while we can’t say for sure or make any commitments whether there will or won’t be a wipe, we are committed to getting @wickedgame absolutely right for 1.0.
That means if a technical or a game design necessity for a wipe for 1.0 arises in order to create a better game, we will have to consider doing it.
As for the timing of our 1.0 release – we will take our Early Access one step at a time to make sure we get everything built on the right foundation, dialed in, polished and iterated on with our community and released at the right cadence when the time is right. We are not going to rush it after 6 years in the making. We are committed to getting it right!

Of course, the game is nowhere near finished, and Moon Studios has a ton of content that needs to be added, and we’re only seeing a small slice of that with the Early Access. Now, I’d hate to lose everything I’ve done so far, but in the grand scheme of things, if a wipe is needed, then it’s needed. I’m sure that’s not going to stop me from doing it all over again. See, that’s the good and bad of playing an Early Access game. Sure, you get to play it and help point out issues and address concerns that help the developer of the title adjust and tweak. But you also can be at the mercy of a wipe once the game hits retail, forcing you to do it all over again.
For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but keep an open mind that a wipe may happen. Given that so many things can change throughout the developer process, this would be the first time that an Early Access game has seen a wipe upon its official release.
As for No Rest For The Wicked will eventually go retail or version 1.0, that’s anyone’s guess – including Moon Studios. Still, I’d rather the developer take its time and give us the game that was envisioned, instead of rushing it out. If it takes until the end of 2024 or even into 2025, I’m fine with that, and so should you.
