When it comes to classic video game characters being brought into the movie or TV space, how they sound is paramount to the properties success both in a financial way and in the fan response way. For the upcoming Sonic 3 film, there has been one question asked for quite some time now, “Who the heck is voicing Shadow the Hedgehog?” Naturally, fans had their own ideas on who it would be, such as Keanu Reeves. But, at Cinemacon, as we talked about in the latest episode of NEP, director Jeff Fowler said they WOULDN’T reveal who the voice actor was until the film arrived.
Well, that lasted about three days. The Hollywood Reporter and others are all stating that Keanu Reeves has indeed been cast as Shadow The Hedgehog, and the internet is losing its mind over it. After all, this is a “dream casting” come true, and Keanu has voiced several animated characters in the past, including being in Toy Story 4, Krypto The Superdog, and Cyberpunk 2077. So he’s got the chops.
We DO need to be clear here. Paramount, nor anyone associated with the film has confirmed that Keanu is Shadow…yet. So until they make it clear, or a trailer confirms it, take this all with a grain of salt.
