Decide early on what your main weapon stat will be
The weapons in Lies of P focus on three stats: Motivity, Technique, and Advance. Each stat will benefit some weapons better than others, and you can also upgrade (or even replace) that stat as you progress. However, I’ve found that focusing on a stat early on is better for you, as you’re also pushing up your weapon’s damage. I learned this the hard way and wasted precious materials, so don’t do what I did.
Also, be sure to keep pumping up your vigor and stamina stat, as it will give you more block regain in case you can’t parry, and more stamina to get out of bad situations or to attack.
Keep your weapon sharp
Lies of P features a weapon degradation system, and your weapon will take damage every time you attack, block, or parry. Some more than others, as each weapon has different strengths to physical abuse. So, you’ll want to be sure to use your handy grinder that’s built into P’s left arm. You’ll know when this is about to happen as your weapon meter will change to red, and you won’t be able to do as much damage, and your charge attacks will stop halfway through.
Trust me, you don’t want the weapon to break down during combat or, worse… during a boss fight.
Don’t hold your pulse cell charges
Pulse Cell Charges are your bread and butter of healing. We all know that we’re barely hanging on to life and that we want to hold on to that last health potion until the very last moment. However, in Lies of P, even when you’re out of healing stuff, as long as you continue to attack, the game will fill up your Pulse Cell Charge meter and eventually will grant you an extra health charge. It’s pretty helpful when you’re fighting bosses or are lost, and you are down on your health. Literally.
Make use of your special abilities
Lies of P features what’s called Fable Arts, which allows you to perform special attacks. Once you build up enough Fable meter, you’ll want to use these attacks as soon as you can. Otherwise, you’re just wasting the power and won’t build up any more meter until you do. Plus, some of the attacks are super devasting and will destroy your enemies.
Learn to make sure of the perfect guard
Perfect Guard, also referred to as a parry, is a great way to stop yourself from taking damage. It’s also a good way to break enemies weapons, knock them off balance, and put them into a crumble state that lets you get in a fatal attack on them. Learn how to parry, and it won’t be easy as some enemies are easy to read. Some will change up attacks by mixing in slower attacks or change their patterns completely. Parry, parry, parry. But also, don’t be afraid to block… at the cost of some health chip.
Do it from behind
Lies of P, just like most action RPGs/Soulslike, features an option to do extra damage to enemies by striking them from behind. It’s a worthwhile tactic and one you should take advantage of as much as possible, and besides the extra damage, the animation will grant you temporary invincibility until it’s finished.
Don’t be afraid to use the Specter
I have no shame in my game, and neither should you. The specter was put into the game to help you get past the bosses, they are not a crutch or anything like that. Use them, and use them often. Seriously, don’t be tricked into not using them because someone told you it was cheating. If it was cheating, the developers wouldn’t have put it into the game. And besides, it’s a single-player game… cheat all you want. But it’s still not checking.
Pay attention to your weight limit
As I found out, nearly everything in Lies of P can weigh you down, and that’s not good as it will affect your stamina recovery. The game only features three different weight limits: Normal, Slightly Heavy, and Heavy. When you are under the weight limit, you won’t see a warning. However, when you are starting to approach the weight limit, you will get a warning of Slight Heavy, and once you have surpassed it, you will see a Heavy warning. This stinks as most gear provides damage reduction, and the decent weapons will put you into Slight Heavy or Heavy. So, unless you put a lot of points into the Capacity rating, which lets you eventually carry more stuff, you need to pay attention to the warnings.
Breathe
This game is tough. Perhaps tougher than many other Soulslikes, and that’s going to possibly piss off a bunch of those who are trying to beat the game. So, breathe. Take a time-out if you find yourself beating your head against a wall, both in the game and in real life.
I’ve found that taking a breather is exactly what I needed, then came back to get past that obstacle that was stopping me. Breathe, relax, then conquer.
Hopefully, these tips will help you get through Lies of P, and we’ll have more guides for you in the future.
