Many Nintendo fans are still reeling from the fact that Charles Martinet, who has been the voice of Mario since the N64 days, is “taking a step back” from voicing the role. Not to mention all the other roles he voices for Nintendo games. He has said he’s not retiring from Nintendo, however, as he’s been given the role of “Mario Ambassador.” However, what that actually means is unclear. And we don’t say that just to be mean, but because even Martinet himself said so!
During a panel at GalaxyCon Austin, he briefly talked about the role…and…well…
“I am now a Mario Ambassador. I don’t know what that is yet. I’m not retired as it were, but I’m an ambassador. As we step forward into the future, we’ll all learn exactly what that is.”
Well, that’s not going to inspire confidence! But it could easily be spelled out later.
