Easily one of the best parts of the Mortal Kombat 1 trailers is the fact that they fully embrace the concept of the “new world” that Fire God Liu Kang has built. With each one, we get a new page turned to showcase how different things are and how characters aren’t as we remember them. In the newest trailer, Outworld is a focus, and we finally get to see two of the “biggest names” of the realm return. First up, we have General Shao.
In this timeline, he’s a warrior of Outworld who has proven himself on the battlefield time and time again. However, his bloodlust puts him at odds with his ruler, Empress Sindel. Yep, she’s back! And this time, she’s the Empress that once again is trying to maintain peace within the realms. How far these two will go in their clash of ideals remains unknown, but between her hair and screams, she can keep the general in check.
Finally, we got the return of Raiden, and he’s much different from the Elder God you are accustomed to. He’s younger and has learned much from Earthrealm’s people by decree of Liu Kang. How his “new life” will factor into this world will be interesting to see unfold.
As for the Kameos, we got two surprises via Motaro, and the returning Shujinko, who hasn’t been seen in quite some time.
Mortal Kombat 1 will arrive on September 19th, 2023, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC. While you wait, be sure to check out our Mortal Kombat 1 Pre-order beta impressions.
