Saber Interactive has given players some surprising news at the 2023 Summer Game Fest that went live on Thursday. We have not seen much in the way of gameplay or news surrounding the release date of Warhammer 40,o00 Space Marine 2, but that changed at the Summer Games Fest. Many games were announced and revealed during the showcase, but the one that has had myself and many other gamers hooked is more information on the sequel to Saber Interactives’ action-packed interpretation of the beloved Space Marine saga.
Warhammer’s titular third-person hack and slash shooter Space Marine has not seen an installment since September of 2011, nearly 12 years! Both hardcore fans of the tabletop game and casual players alike have been salivating at the news of the well-anticipated sequel being released later this year. We here at the Outerhaven have already covered some of the gameplay, which you can check out here.
The new gameplay announced that players will be able to join up with each other in up to 3-player co-op action. This to me, is an interesting piece of news because of the current situation with games rarely utilizing cooperative features. The game that immediately comes to mind when discussing this particular genre is the Gears of War franchise, which has had enormous success with its cooperative experiences over many years. Will this be a one-off for this second entry? Or will we begin to see more and more games allowing cooperative experiences for the storytelling? Only time will tell. Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 is set to release sometime this year.
