Nvidia has officially revealed its 4070 Ti, which was initially named the RTX 4080 12 GB, but was canceled before its launch in 2022. According to Nvidia, the RTX 4070 Ti is being marketed as a 1440p GPU, and will be priced at $799. It will be available as soon as January 5th, 2023.
The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti includes 40 Shader TFLOPs, 93 RT TFLOPS, and 641 Tensor TFLOPs. In addition, Nvidia claims that the RTX 4070 Ti will provide 3x the RTX 3090 Ti GPU performance.
While we can’t see the original RTX 4080 12GB specs, as Nvidia removed the card from its website, the RTX 4070 Ti echoes those specs. Coming in at $799 is going to send ripples in the GPU market. AMD’s 7900 XTX card has been experiencing overheating issues, which has affected its performance and is priced $300 more, while the 7900 XT isn’t worth the asking price.
At the same time, this will completely replace the higher-end RTX 3000 series cards — if you were looking to sell your no-longer-needed RTX 3080 or RTX 3090 GPUs, you might want to do it sooner than later. This may also leave the RTX 4080 in a weird position, not that it wasn’t already in one.
For anyone looking to get access to DLSS 3, but doesn’t want to pay the premium price, the RTX 4070 Ti may be the card to get. Again, assuming you can find them in stores.
The Nvidia RTX 4090 is priced at $1600 and above, while the RTX 4080 can be found at $1200. With the RTX 4070 Ti coming in at under $1000, this was a good move (IMHO) on Nvidia’s part.
