In just a few more days, we’ll bid the year 2022 a heartfelt goodbye and will be thrust smack into the year 2023. With the new year comes several new video games that we’re looking forward to getting our hands on — and so should you.
This article will highlight several video games you should check out in January 2023. So, if you weren’t sure what to play or what is even releasing that month, don’t worry as we got you covered.
A Space For The Unbound – January 19th, 2023 (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC)
One Piece Odyssey – January 13th, 2023 (PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC)
The world-renowned anime is getting a brand new game with One Piece Odyssey. Join the Straw Hat Pirate crew as they find themselves scattered across a new island full of danger and treasure. This is a turn-based RPG, so fans of this genre and the anime should find themselves in heaven. If you aren’t sold on the idea, a One Piece Odyssey demo is being released before the entire game is released, so check that out first.
Fire Emblem Engage – January 20th, 2023 (Switch)
Nintendo’s long-running strategy RPG series see a new entry with Fire Emblem Engage, and I know several of our team are looking forward to getting their hands on it. Great gameplay with new enhancements, the appearance of characters from the previous games, some new faces, and more will ensure that fans of the series will be eating well. For those who’ve never played a Fire Emblem game, Fire Emblem Engage will be a good jumping-off point.
Monster Hunter Rise – January 20th, 2023 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S)
While Monster Hunter Rise isn’t a new title as it’s already available on the Switch and PC. January 20th will make the first time that the new Monster Hunter entry will be available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. While I didn’t enjoy it as much as Monster Hunter World, it’s a fantastic new entry, and fans of the series who didn’t want to play it on the Switch, or didn’t own a PC capable of playing the game, will soon be able to play it on the rest of the gaming consoles. Sadly, cross-platform play or cross-saves still aren’t a thing, as Capcom apparently doesn’t believe in either of these.
Forspoken – January 24th, 2023 (PS5, PC)
After being delayed several times, Square Enix’s isekai game, Forspoken, is finally being released. We even took the Forspoken PS5-only demo for a spin, and you can read about that here. In Forspoken, players will take the role of Frey, who mysteriously finds herself in the world of Athia. Wanting nothing to do with this new world, Frey will utilize magic to traverse the environments, to attack and defend herself, as she looks for a way home.
Dead Space Remake – January 27th, 2023 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC)
Of all the games being released next month, Dead Space Remake is the one I’m looking forward to the most. This remake has been built from the ground up, and introduces several updates, such as being able to shoot the skin off of the Necromorphs, better visuals, an updated sound engine, and more. I’ve spent an ungodly amount of time on the original Dead Space games on the Xbox 360, PS3, and eventually the PC, and I’m looking forward to doing it again with the remake.
PlayStation 5 DualSense Edge – January 26th, 2023
Yes, while this isn’t a game, it’s definitely something gamers will want to be on the lookout for when January 2023 hits. The elite version of the PS5 DualSense controller, the DualSense Edge, brings many enhancements to the table, including two rear buttons, swappable dome caps, swappable analog sticks to combat controller drift, textured grips and touchpad, and adjustable hair triggers. It’s not all great news as the controller also comes with decreased battery life, which is a concern of mine. It also costs $200 dollars. However, if you’re looking for that Elite PS5 controller experience, this is yet another controller contending for that title.
The DualSense Edge is currently available for pre-order at the PlayStation store, but will also be available in retail stores when it releases.
