Easily the best Steam Deck Dock available
When Valve unveiled the Steam Deck, it also introduced a Steam Deck Dock, boasting an ethernet and HDMI port – think of it as an upgraded version of the Nintendo Switch dock. However, Valve recently confirmed a delay in the release of the dock. This is where the JSAUX Docking Station for Steam Deck HB0603 steps in.
Before delving deeper, it’s important to note that this review focuses on the Upgraded Docking Station for Steam Deck (HB0603). JSAUX offers two different docking stations – this upgraded version and the Docking Station for Steam Deck HB0602. While they share similar features, the upgraded version distinguishes itself with three USB 3.0 ports.
This may not be an official dock, but as long as it meets the power delivery requirements, there’s no need for concern. Having faced issues with USB-C hubs in the past, I can attest that the JSAUX Docking Station for Steam Deck provides reliable 100W power delivery. If you’ve lost your Steam Deck charger, this serves as a viable replacement.
Constructed from sturdy aluminum with a satin finish. While robust, I wish the JSAUX branding wasn’t prominently displayed on the front. The thick cord ensures durability, and the angled USB-C connector is secure.
Docking the Steam Deck is a breeze – simply place it in the cradle with rear and bottom padding to prevent scratches. Connect the attached USB-C cable to the Steam Deck, and you’re good to go. The rear of the docking station features an HDMI port supporting 4K@60Hz output, three USB 3.0 ports, and a USB-C port for charging. These USB ports can accommodate peripherals like keyboards, mice, gamepads, and additional storage.
The inclusion of an ethernet port is a game-changer for faster game downloads compared to the built-in Wi-Fi on the Steam Deck. The 1000GB ethernet port significantly speeds up downloads, a noticeable improvement for users who appreciate faster speeds
JSAUX claims that the docking station enhances visuals and provides a smoother experience when connected to a 4K TV. Testing this on multiple games confirms the sharpening effect.
After a week of using this dock, it has transformed how I use my Steam Deck. I now use it more frequently, even at home in my living room. The additional ports, especially for multiple players, make it a versatile accessory. During testing, I connected multiple controllers to the USB ports, including one via Bluetooth, resulting in a delightful four-player TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge session.
My experience with the JSAUX Docking Station for Steam Deck has been positive. However, I observed some slowdown when using an 8K HDMI cable, leading to noticeable input delays. Switching to a different 4K HDMI cable resolved the issue. It’s worth noting that certain HDMI cables may not work with the dock.
Update: JSAUX has pointed out that certain HDMI cables won’t work with their dock.
Is the JSAUX Docking Station for Steam Deck worth it? In my opinion, yes. It offers additional USB ports, an HDMI connection, an ethernet port, and a secure place for the Steam Deck. If you already own a USB-C hub with proper power delivery and a suitable cradle for the Steam Deck, you may have less need for it. However, be aware that you’ll miss out on the visual enhancements the dock provides.
For Steam Deck owners unwilling to wait for Valve’s official dock, the JSAUX Docking Station is a worthy alternative. Alternatively, you can opt for the previous JSAUX Steam Deck Docking Station, which includes two USB ports at a $10 lower price.
The JSAUX Upgraded Docking Station for Steam Deck HB0603 is available for pre-order on JSAUX’s website for $49.99. Alternatively, you can pre-order the JSAUX Docking Station for Steam Deck on Amazon for $39.99.
