Famous basketball player LeBron James has somehow made his way to the fighting game MultiVersus, and he’s certainly unique among the roster and the platform fighter genre. His moveset revolves around throwing the basketball and his tricks around the circular object. Here’s a breakdown of every move, his best strategies, and the most effective perks for LeBron James.
Moveset and Best Strategies for LeBron James in MultiVersus
Standard moves
Based on his appearance in Space Jam: A New Legacy, LeBron performs extraordinary moves for being just a regular human. His first standard attack is a powerful shoulder Check That, is a strong aggressive move. You can either tap or hold the square button (or X on Xbox) to perform the attack. The held form takes around 13% of damage from the foe and has a great knockout effect on your opponent, as shown in the above picture. The tap form only does a mere 3%. His neutral air attack is a spin move that deals 5% of damage.
Moving sideways with a square (X) button press, begins a combo that launches your foe up at the end of it. Lebron James doesn’t have a solid follow-up to this attack, but we recommend trying to throw up the ball into your foe to give an extra nudge into the abyss above. Doing this motion in the air will have LeBron perform a clap-like move with the basketball, dishing out 3% of damage. This is also an excellent option to eliminate a foe hanging on the side of the stage.
Holding up and pressing square (X) has LeBron spinning the ball on his finger, acting as an uppercut. Unfortunately, it can’t be held for a stronger attack, but it does lead to a potential advantage in the air with a combo. In the air, he performs an alley-oop, which has a better range than on the ground.
Going down and pressing square (X), LeBron spins the ball around with a decent range. It does a sweet 6% of damage. It combos well with the string of attacks you can by holding sideways and pressing square (X). While in the air, he slams the ball down towards his opponent as it moves under his legs, doing a credible five damage points. When he doesn’t have the ball, LeBron slams his hands on the ground, similarly to Donkey Kong in the Super Smash Bros. series.
Special Moves
As you’d expect from LeBron James, he throws his basketball wherever he’d like when you only press the triangle button (Y). He can hit opponents if that lands correctly for a decent 5-6% of damage. Whenever he doesn’t have the basketball in hand, he can summon it back with a tap of the triangle button (Y). However, there will be a timer after that, leaving LeBron with his own two hands.
One of LeBron’s strongest moves is the L-Train, which has the athlete dunking the ball with a ground-shaking smash. It creates a shockwave when it lands and causes weakened debuff on his foes. Your rivals in the battle may bounce off the stage and land into the abyss above. You can also use it as a spike off-stage. If he doesn’t have the basketball, he’ll do a shoulder charge, which is less optimal. If your teammate has the ball and throws it, LeBron will warp to the ball and performs a dunk at that moment.
Up and triangle (Y) has LeBron throw his ball into the air as a projectile attack. If he doesn’t have the ball in his hand, the basketball player unleashes chalk into their, causing 6% of damage. The version in which LeBron has a basketball and throws it towards his opponents upwards will be hit for 4% and can be utilized as a finishing move in the air, despite it being slightly weak. As the shot is so tricky for little rewards in damage, this is a move we don’t repeat often.
Lastly, down and triangle (Y) has LeBron throwing the basketball vertically below. It’s less significant than the L-Train, however, so it’s merely there to keep your opponent confused. However, down and triangle (Y) without the ball is actually more useful, as he creates a fence that blocks projectiles heading his way. He’ll then gain a basketball if he successfully counters a projectile. While playing LeBron James, try to master the ball and selectively choose when to implement your projectile attacks. He’s tougher to figure out than Bugs Bunny, Batman, and Harley Quinn, that’s for sure. The L-Train is the best way to eliminate someone, however, so try to work your combos around it.
