Given the incredible success of Sonic The Hedgehog 2, there are many who likely were waiting with anticipation for the Super Mario Movie that is being made by Illumination (the team behind Minions and more). It was originally set for release in December of this year, and was going to star Chris Pratt, Jack Black, Anya Taylor-Joy and more. Notice though that we said “originally set”.
Because on the Nintendo Twitter page, Shigeru Miyamoto himself noted the following:
This is Miyamoto. After consulting with Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. film, we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023–April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America. My deepest apologies but I promise it will be well worth the wait.

Now, obviously, this is bad news for those who wanted the Super Mario Movie to come out sooner rather than later. However, it could be that like the original Sonic movie, they’re doing a delay to make sure they have the best movie possible. Also, they probably don’t want to hear that “Sega Does What Nintendon’t” if their movie doesn’t match what Sonic’s did. Just saying…
