Finally, PlayStation has released an app that will allow Windows 8/10/11 computers to update the controller. While the DualSense controller has been a smashing success for PC gamers, it wasn’t possible to update the firmware. Which meant that all of the new features and improvements simply weren’t available. That is unless you had access to a PlayStation 5, which are hard to come by, thanks to a few reasons.
Now, thanks to this recent application, called “Firmware updater for DualSense wireless controller“, that’s a thing of the past. All you have to do is download the app, install it and make sure you plug in your DualSense via a USB C cable. That’s it! Now, you’ll be able to update your DualSense controller with the latest firmware available for the controller.
While the DualSense has been recommended for PC gaming, more and more, it’s nice to see that we can finally update the controller on our PCs. I suppose now that PlayStation has committed to supporting the PC, this was inevitable. With titles such as God of War, Days Gone and Horizon Zero Dawn already available for PC, and with more on the way, this only made sense. It’s not just PlayStation games that use the DualSense, such as Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, Deathloop, Far Cry 6, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, to name a few, natively support the controller.
As for PlayStation supporting the PC as a gaming platform, I’m all for it. In addition to the games I already mentioned, PlayStation has stated that Nixxes, which has a history of porting PC titles and was acquired by PlayStation to handle its PC ports. It’s going to be an interesting year to see just how committed the company is and which other games will arrive on the PC.
