Update, March 31 @ 3:56 PM: The ESA has confirmed that the 2022 E3 digital event has indeed been canceled. In a statement provided to GamesBeat, the ESA had this to say:
E3 will return in 2023 with a reinvigorated showcase that celebrates new and exciting video games and industry innovations.
We previously announced that E3 would not be held in person in 2022 due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19. Today, we announce that there will also be no digital E3 showcase in 2022.
Instead, we will devote all our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer. Whether enjoyed from the show floor or your favorite devices, the 2023 showcase will bring the community, media, and industry back together in an all-new format and interactive experience.
We look forward to presenting E3 to fans around the world live from Los Angeles in 2023.
Look for more news and announcements soon.

The E3 2022 digital event has been reportedly canceled, according to several sources. If confirmed true, then this means there won’t be any E3 events that will take place in 2022.
According to IGN’s Rebekah Valentine, the news of E3 2022 being canceled originated from a Tweet by Will Powers, who had stated that an email had been sent that confirmed that the digital E3 2022 event was canceled.
Just got an email… It's official, E3 digital is official cancelled for 2022. Lots of mixed feelings about this…

The organization that runs E3, Entertainment Software Association, has yet to confirm to the press or post an announcement on Twitter. At the time of this article, we didn’t see any announcement regarding the cancelation on the website either. The ESA did cancel its plans for a physical E3 2022 event due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns.
We’ve contacted the ESA for confirmation on if the digital E3 2022 event has been canceled or not. Sadly, things haven’t been going well for the once gaming event giant. While COVID-19 definitely took the wind out of its sails, we shouldn’t forget the massive leak that revealed the names, addresses, and phone numbers of members of the media and press. Which, to be honest, was what put a nail in the E3 coffin.
Adding to this, if this is legit, what does this mean for future E3 events? Is this the end of E3? Especially since we’ve seen several digital events, including Geoff Keighly’s Summer Game Fest, rise to replace E3.
We’ll update this article once we get confirmation from the ESA on whether not E3 digital event has been canceled or not.
