A recent report from Bloomberg has shown up about the plans Sony has for the PlayStation 4. Namely, they still plan to make new PlayStation 4 consoles even though the PlayStation 5 has been released for over a year. This decision has been reached due to chip shortages for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 exclusive games being delayed due to the pandemic, and many games still being released for both PlayStation 4 and 5.
The state of finding current-generation consoles is still difficult for many gamers due to scalpers. Making PlayStation 4 consoles readily available when PlayStation 5 consoles are not is a smart move. Especially when there are very few PS5 exclusive-only games that have been released.
When asked further about their decision, one of the spokespeople from Sony has said, “It is one of the best-selling consoles ever and there is always crossover between generations” regarding the PlayStation 4. There are over 116 million PS4 consoles sold and more on the way from the sound of it.
Sony expects PlayStation 5 shortages to continue throughout the year. It might not be a bad idea to just get an SSD inside a PS4 to try working on getting into the newer games if you don’t want to deal with trying to get a PlayStation 5 this year.
