Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction releases on January 20, 2022, and if you haven’t checked out our review yet, let me be the first to tell you that the game is tough. The game’s AI director doesn’t make it easy for you, even on the lowest difficulty. However, you can do a few things to try and even out the odds.
Below are several tips that I’ve come up with after spending hours with Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction. Give them a read. I promise they’ll help you when you’re trying to complete a level or if you’re trying to rescue a downed operator.
Good Luck!
Stay with your group
While Rainbow Six Extraction seems like every other team-based creature hunting game, it isn’t, and teamwork is encouraged. The creatures in the game can easily overwhelm you, especially on harder difficulties. While you might want to go running off to complete objectives faster, you might want to put that on hold as you’ll be punished if you do. This way, if you or a teammate gets downed, you’ll at least have a chance to recover or rush them to an extraction pod. Plus, if you lose an operator, you’ll have to rescue them in a later mission.
Pick up all the REACT tech that you find
Your operator’s abilities (well, mostly) require REACT tech to work. When you start to use them, you’ll find out that you won’t be able to use them again unless you find some REACT tech. This is important if you’re using an operator with a healing another support ability.
Pick at least one operator that can heal
Health kits in Rainbow Six Extraction are scarce, and most of them will only let you heal one character. To offset this, it’s best to have at least one person in your group play an operator who can heal. This will be helpful, especially during the more challenging missions.
Make sure you level up other operators
Don’t depend on just one or two operators to get you through the game. If your favorite operator takes too much damage, they won’t be available for other missions. Instead, they’ll be placed on the hurt list and won’t be playable until they heal up. You can also lose an operator, and they’ll become MIA. So be sure to try out other operatives.
Ping is useful for finding items
While most will use the ping ability to point and order teammates around. It’s also useful for locating items. While playing, you can see items such as health, ammo and others. However, unless you are right on top of it, you can really tell what it is. Yet, if you ping the item, it will tell what it is, regardless of how far away you are. Use this to your advantage.
Customize your weapons
As you level up your operators, it opens up access to different weapons and modifications for them. Make sure you take advantage of those modifications, as they’ll help you deal out more damage and provide better utility.
Kill all the nests that you find
While there are a number of creatures that can kill you quickly in the game, the nests are another issue. They can spawn an endless supply of creatures, and that’s not good for you. Thankfully, they’re also the easier enemy to take down. All you need to do is approach them and take them down or fire a few rounds from a distance. Failing to do so, especially on the harder difficulties, will make you regret your decision.
Rescue operators in the single-player mode
Should you lose, or when you ultimately end up losing an operator, they’ll be placed onto the MIA list. To get them back, you’ll have to revisit the level you lost them on. However, I’ve found that it’s much easier to rescue an MIA operator playing alone. Trying to do so in a group runs the risk of the AI director sending more creatures at you than you can handle. Trust me; rescues are better in the single-player mode.
Make sure you put rescued operators in the extraction pods
In all the excitement, you may forget to place a rescued operator into an extraction pod — don’t do this. All rescued operators must be put into the extraction pods for a successful rescue. If you do an extraction without doing so, they will be left behind, and you’ll have to mount another mission to save them.
You can skip missions
Just because a level has three missions doesn’t mean you have to do them all. If you see a mission you would rather do, and it’s not the first mission, then skip it. All you have to do is make a beeline to the safe house and start the next mission. You won’t score any points other than for the creatures you kill, but you’ll save on resources that way.
There’s no fall damage
That’s it. There’s no fall damage. If you find yourself on an upper level and need a fast way down, don’t take the stairs — jump! This gets you out of messy situations as well.
