Nintendo Switch Online has been a bit of a sore spot for Nintendo ever since it launched. Do recall that at first, Nintendo didn’t have a dedicated online service, they merely allowed you to play their games online for free. Then they made their service, promised older games, and only for a price of $20 a year. But, fans weren’t happy with the amount of content in it, and then when the Expansion Pack was revealed and then released, it only made matters worse.
During the latest Nintendo Financial Brief, President Shuntaro Furukawa spoke about Nintendo Switch Online and had some interesting things to say about it:
The number of members who are subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online, a service for Nintendo Switch users, is increasing a long with the growth of the hardware install base. It has reached more than 32 million accounts as of Sept. 2021.
Going forward, we will continue to improve and expand both Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, striving to provide services that satisfy consumers.
Whether they can actually satisfy customers is a bit up in the air right now. But if they do pull it off, it might help bridge the 60-million user gap that they have right now.
