Final Fantasy VII’s Battle Royale Spin-Off The First Soldier Gets A Really Pretty Trailer Plus A November Release Date

As is the case with many of today’s biggest game franchises, Final Fantasy is now getting into the battle royale genre with their Final Fantasy VII spin-off The First Soldier. The upcoming mobile game will take place in the decades before Cloud and the Avalanche crew make their legendary debuts.

The game’s synopsis via its website says the following:

Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier is a high-octane battle royale game, infused with RPG elements from the Final Fantasy series. Set in Midgar prior to the events of Final Fantasy VII, fight to join the ranks of Shinra’s elite SOLDIER unit while utilizing spells, weapons, and special abilities to defeat your opponents and emerge victorious.

For it being a game that most people are either confused by or completely not interested in, it is at the very least a pretty impressive and action-packed trailer. The trailer does also make it very clear that this does in fact take place within the same continuity as FFVII: Remake since they drop Cloud and Sephiroth in the opening seconds to set up the timeframe. It is clearly trying to draw people in with its connection to that long-standing FFVII popularity which isn’t inherently bad. What really will matter is if it can stand on its own as a fun experience for players.

It won’t be long before we can all get our hands on Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier. It launches on iOS and Android on November 17th and is currently available for preregistration on the game’s official website.
